He began his legal career in Calgary, initially articling and then joining the legal team at Canadian Pacific Limited, the former parent company of CP Rail, CP Hotels, Fording, and CP Ships. Following this, he joined Donahue, Ernst & Young, the law firm associated with Ernst & Young, where he played a key role in significant real estate transactions, some valued at $300 million.
